Grapes from both parcels looked great and juice quality was very good. We are excited about the possibilities with this Chardonnay. We also picked a block from Terres Basses on 9/23 and were very excited about the flavors and quality of the skin tannins.

The rain, which only amounted to about 1.5” in total, really helped slow things down and has given the fruit an opportunity to develop some great flavor potential and maturity of tannin. We began our biggest week of harvest on October 1st and brought in the majority of fruit from the estate during the subsequent days. The  drop in temperature and cloud cover also dragged out our picking schedule in a way that sets things up perfectly for a great and final week of ripening at WillaKenzie. Mild daytime temps in the upper 60s and low 70s with plenty of sun – perfect for achieving ripeness, but not overdoing it. Nighttime temps in the mid 40s – perfect for preserving acidity and freshness.

In short, a killer growing season . . .stay tuned for more details!
