Dear Friends,

What is a Clone? Viticulturally, a clone is a plant that has been reproduced without a seed, but rather from a bud or a shoot from another plant. This method guarantees that the offspring will be biologically identical to the parent. A cutting is typically made from a segment of cane, propagated in a nursery and then transferred to the vineyard. In fact, the Greek origin of the word "clone" means "twig". At WillaKenzie Estate, we planted a wide variety of clones in order to maximize the palette of aromas and flavors in the wines.

APRIL SPECIAL

This month we are featuring 2 of our estate grown 2007 Pinot Noir Vineyard Designates which derive their names from the lay of the land. The name Terres Basses means the low lands, and comprises our lowest vineyard blocks ranging in elevation from 310' to 380' on very gentle south facing slopes. The name Triple Black Slopes reflects the steepness of the ground on which the blocks of vines are planted and takes its name from steep ski slopes.

2007 Pinot Noir Terres Basses
6-Pack for $324.00 or 12-Pack for $612.00
Regular 6-Pack Price: $342.00 / 12-Pack Price: $648.00

Displays dark ruby color with a slight purple hue that seems characteristic of this vintage. The complex bouquet offers rich, black fruit tones, then some earthiness, chocolate and intriguing hints of tangerine peel. Flavors follow the aromas with cherry, blackberry and blackcurrant notes creating initial sweetness that develops into a round, velvety palate impression and a long finish.

2007 Pinot Noir Triple Black Slopes
6-Pack for $324.00 or 12-Pack for $612.00
Regular 6-Pack Price: $342.00 / 12-Pack Price: $648.00

Scents of concentrated darker fruits suggest crème de cassis, currants, blueberries and blackberries, which are accompanied by dried herbs, bramble, dried rose petals, violets and green tea leaves. The wine is elegantly balanced with crisp, upfront acidity and soft, sweet tannins that linger. Flavors of mixed red and black fruits, including blackberry, black cherry, strawberry and rhubarb, offer a pleasant juiciness, which juxtapose nicely with vanilla crème flavors and caramel that comes from the oak in the soft, long finish.

Solar Panel Installation

As you can see by the photos, the Solar Panel project is still in progress. The framework is now being laid to support the 560 solar panels. The panels should provide between 40-45% of the electricity consumed at the winery. Since we already buy 50% of our power from renewable sources, we will be between 90-95% renewable energy at WillaKenzie Estate. This is yet another example of the commitment of WillaKenzie Estate in maintaining sustainable, green practices.
